Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist - Mental Health Service Donegal 37hpw, LYCPCP01.
This is an appointment to HSE West and North West Region on a Public Only Consultants Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to MHS Donegal for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE's National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.

The main purpose of this post is to meet the increasing needs of child and adolescent population through the provision of a high quality Consultant led and community based Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service.
To deliver outpatient care, working closely with the team members ensuring continuity of care and liaising with other services.
To liaise with inpatient services as required in Letterkenny University Hospital and CAMHS inpatient facilities.
To work in close liaison with other statutory and non-statutory agencies.
To provide services to children, young people and their families.
To keep contemporary medical records of a high professional standard.
To participate in community based clinics and provide regular inpatient ward rounds should the need arise.
To provide high standards of patient care and have an active participation in service development and service planning.
The post will fulfil the policy of providing community based Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services and is in line with the Vision For Change (2006), Mental Health National Service Plan, HSE West and North West Region Mental Health Service Plan and Donegal Mental Health Services Service Plan.
The appointment will meet the objectives of delivering high quality Consultant led community based Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services.
This is a replacement post meeting the mental health needs of children and adolescents in the South Donegal area and environs corresponding with GP practice catchments.
The service will be collocated with Primary Care in a Primary Care Centre in Donegal Town with clinics also delivered in Letterkenny and the feasibility to deliver clinics in other areas if required.
The Consultant will be one of a team of 3 Consultants covering CAMHS in County Donegal and therefore responsible for the CAMHS service to one-third of the population of the county.
Consultant opportunities include academic links with National University of Ireland Galway Medical School through Letterkenny Medical Academy.
The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023. Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st August 2025:
€233,527 €246,150 €259,475 €266,489 €273,501 €280,513
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
