Consultant Radiation Oncologist - St. Luke's, Rathgar 37hpw, RAON3939.
This is an appointment to the HSE Dublin & Midlands Region on a Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to St Luke's, Rathgar for 37 hours per week . This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE’s National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.

The purpose of the post will be to support existing consultants working within these tumour groups and to maintain and further enhance developments within each service.
The person chosen will be required to:
Participate in the provision and administration of radiation oncology services for patients in St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network, which includes but is not limited to clinical evaluation and workup of patients, management of patients undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biological therapy or general medical management, as appropriate. Involvement in treatment planning, prescribing, monitoring and follow-up of patients, in-patient care includes ward rounds at least once weekly.
To act as Consultant Radiation Oncologist within St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network.
To ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays for patients and possible disruption of services.
Provide clinics for outpatient services.
Actively participate in Cancer Multidisciplinary Teams, in conjunction with medical, surgical and other colleagues.
Plan, develop and maintain responsibility for clinical audit programmes within Radiation Oncology in conjunction with the Clinical Director, consultant colleagues and in accordance with the hospital’s clinical governance structure as it evolves.
The St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (the Network) operates from three Dublin locations – St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Units in St. James’s and Beaumont Hospitals.
The Network provides a wide range of sophisticated radiotherapy treatment combined with chemotherapy, palliative care and pain management services.
At present, St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Network has fourteen linear accelerators in clinical service. St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Network is the largest provider of radiation oncology services in the country and one of the biggest centres in Europe.
Services provided include an extensive intensity modulated radiotherapy programme, brachytherapy and stereotactic radiotherapy. St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Network is the only provider in the country for paediatric radiation oncology, total body irradiation and ocular brachytherapy.
St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Network provides a service of international quality with the needs of our patients and their families at its centre.
The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023. Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st August 2025:
€233,527 €246,150 €259,475 €266,489 €273,501 €280,513
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
