Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist S.I. Psychiatry Of Learning Disability MHS Sligo / Leitrim for 37 hours per week
This is an appointment to HSE West & North West Region 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to MHS Sligo / Leitrim for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.

The normal duties for the post are as outlined in the Approved Consultant Appointment document. These duties and those other commitments assigned by the Clinical Director / Employer will be reflected in the Consultant's Work Schedule which is expected that the Consultant will implement in a flexible way in line with operational needs. (A copy of the job description and indicative work schedule must be made available to all applicants).
If a significant change to this post is contemplated e.g. location, structure, title etc., prior consideration by the CAAC (Consultant Applications Advisory Committee) and approval by the Health Service Executive is required.
This is a new service within Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services. In Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan there are +25,000 children and adolescents (CSO Census of the Population.
2022). The post holder will develop and lead a multidisciplinary team and embed this service in Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services. Nationally "Sharing the Vision, A Mental Health Policy for Everyone" underpins the expansion of mental health services to address the spectrum of conditions and needs and the development of a MHID service for children and adolescents. The new service will be guided by The Specialist CAMHS for Children with Intellectual Disabilities (CAMHS-ID) National Model of Service.
The post holder will lead and provide a CAMHS-ID service for children and adolescents in the Sligo Leitrim West Cavan area who have a learning disability also supporting the transition of young people to Adult MHID Services. The team will provide integrated individual care plans involving relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies from both the health and non-health sectors based on the nationally developed model of care currently being rolled out. This service will be provided through outpatient clinics, day services domiciliary, school and residential visits throughout the SLMHS catchment areas.
Liaison work with other services i.e. CAMHS, Paediatric Services, Tusla – the Child and Family Agency, Community Psychology, Schools and Intellectual Disability Services is also a vital element of work. Developing and aligning CAMHS-ID services with Sharing the Vision, a Mental Health Policy for everyone, CAMHS-ID National Model of Service, National Mental Health Clinical Programmes as well as recommendation from this report and those arising from the Maskey Report (2022)
The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023. Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st March 2025:
€231,215 €243,713 €256,906 €263,850 €270,793 €277,736
Incremental credit is awarded in respect of previous experience at Consultant level.
The standard working week applying to the post is 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is 30 Working Days per annum.
